St George's is a wonderful 14th Century Church, known locally as the Cathedral of Romney Marsh but its size is quite out of proportion to the scattered population of Ivychurch and therein lies its Achilles heel. It is unusual in having no pews in the nave, just a large open space, as would have been normal in mediaeval churches.
Although one of the largest parish churches, its history has been punctuated by decay and neglect and at present we are having to make some quite extensive repairs in the North Aisle (projected costs of about £1/4 million )
The Church, located on the Ashford Road between New Romney and Snave is a landmark on the Marsh and well worth a visit. You will find the church generally open during daylight hours. In the north aisle can be found a growing collection of farm implements and equipment.
Sundays 0900 (except for 4th Sunday of the Month)_ 18.00 (on 4th Sunday of the month only)
Vision
We see the church as a community asset (especially as it is no longer encumbered with pews) and we put on community events (eg recently a barn dance and our annual Harvest Supper)
The church community is small but very welcoming and if you would like to come any join us on a Sunday you will be made most welcome.
