During World War 2, the PLUTO project saw the construction of camouflaged pumping stations to send fuel through undersea pipes to France in support of the D-Day landings. When war was over, one building was converted into a chapel and community centre to provide for the remote community that resides on the Dungeness peninsula.
Services take place on Sea Sunday, and for Harvest and Christmas, and there is also a regular 'Men's Breakfast' for the parish of Lydd and Greatstone, of which Dungeness is a part.
